This interesting stainless steel/copper finished Goblet design features a 4" King with nearly a 1 3/8" Base. The caps of the Kings and Queens unscrew, perhaps revealing a mystery prize for the winner? This set was selected by Chess Collectors International to celebrate the 2008 Meeting held in Boca Raton in 2008. The set bears the inscription CCI 2008 on the Kings. We now only have two of these commemorative sets left.
This is an Islamic design in camel bone resembling pepperpot features. The piece differentiation is difficult and relates to the hole patterns on the bodies of each piece and their respective heights. It's hard to imagine that people could play the game with these pieces but this is an accurate historical representation of this set of chessmen.

The Northern Upright (or Edinburgh) chess set was a popular precursor of the Staunton pattern and is thought to have partly inspired the first Staunton design. Our Northern Upright set is an accurate reproduction of this early 19th century pattern.
